To El Cap and Back

Well, filled with trepidation, I started off to go to Mariposa, or as far as I could....and as far as I could was El Cap...it lugs badly and I suspect a cylinder is gone, or the compression very low...so I came back and parked it....fun to drive though...I like sitting upright.

hi David,

This is Andrew, I have been on the internet since 7-2-07. I have blogger but it is a mess and I really have not figured out how to make it look better yet.

I took apart a VW Bus engine just to put sealant between the two sides of the block. I broke one of the pistons doing so, and I bought 1 cylinder and piston to replace it and it worked fine after that, and the old leak was gone.

The pistons and cylinders are pretty cheap you might want to just replace them.

I have a 87 Astro Van I just adore as well as Mary and Henry do, Mary calls it her car, its up on stands because a bolt is loose on the flywheel and I have to drop the exhust to take off the flywheel cover, so like me, its been on stands about half a year so far.

When one of my other cars breaks down I have to decide which is easier and cheaper to fix. I just put a water pump on the Caprice, that was 4 hundred dollars just for parts.

Finally did that after a dramatic entrance to my work with smoke pouring out of my hood on the Caprice because I was putting in a gallon of water to get to or from work because of the water pump leak.

The heater hose popped off the T connector to the water bottle, it had a machined connector so I had to cut that off, put the hose back on and use a string from a toy whistle to tie the hose on.

That got me home with 3 stops over 58 miles to fill up the water, so I decided it was to much work to drive it so I finally put on the water pump I had bought 8 months ago.

Nice to read your stories and see your pictures here, your blogger is great looking.

:)

Andrew
